LISTEN // "How to Walk Through the Fire" by If Anything Happens to the Cat

If Anything Happens to the Cat are back with a new song! Their new track, entitled "How to Walk Through the Fire" is the opening track off their upcoming album, Sun Drunk Moon, due out hopefully sometime this October. The band recently lost their drummer Mikel to his first love, psychedelic punk rock, and he is now part of a group called Mind Rays, so this has no doubtedly delayed the release of the album, but they have said on Facebook that it should be here this October.

"How to Walk Through the Fire" is a great and interesting new track from the band. While still, post-rock for the most part, it definitely leans more toward the rock side of things, especially around the 2 minute mark. Highly reminiscent of the super awesome track from 28 Days Later, "In the House, In a Heartbeat" by John Murphy, this is for sure one song you have to check out!

SleepSpeak - Winterbone Pt. 2 & 3

What's crackin' everybody. It's Thursday and I just finished reading some bullshit stories from my English Literature class. Tip to all the aspiring (or even current) writers out there: The whole "let me write a story where literally nothing happens" thing might sound like a good idea but it is anything but. In fact it is the exact opposite.

Anyway it's been one of those days. No, not one of those days, I mean one of those "nothing is getting released, nothing is really happening" days so I ventured to Reddit to find us all some rad new talent and boy did I find us something good.

This is SleepSpeak and they are a four-man indie rock group from Mississippi. This Tuesday they released a 5 song-long demo. It's pretty sweet and has nice variation throughout it. This does make their overall genre harder to place though. Even in the song I have selected for you guys to hear there is kind of two different genres happening. In the beginning, what I'm assuming is part 2 of Winterbone, there's more of an acoustic rock or indie rock sound but as it progresses into part 3, the sound changes giving it an almost math-rock feel. Listen to the album-artless-track below and check out the full demo on their Bandcamp page. Also, their Facebook page could use more likes so if you really dig their thing, like em!

EP Review // Trespasser by Guilty Ghosts

This past Tuesday, the post-rock/ambient band Guilty Ghosts released their newest creation, entitled Trespasser, to the world. This is the Brooklyn based band's third EP to be released since their start in April of 2010.

Overall, I thought Trespasser was a very good EP. There was a lot of instrumentation in a lot of the songs like in the song "Wailing Wall". Each time a new instrument or sound was brought in, it was introduced so well that it helped make everything flow together perfectly.

Right now you can buy a limited edition Trespasser CD from their Bandcamp page for only $8. Details are below
"The new EP from Guilty Ghosts features 19 minutes of new recorded music. Each CDr comes encased in a custom die cut sleeve manufactured by ACD Sleeve, and is of a limited edition pressing of 100. Each package includes release notes and is numbered on the inner sleeve of the album artwork. First week orders get free shipping.
Includes immediate download of 7-track album in your choice of MP3 320, FLAC, or just about any other format you could possibly desire."

X Nihilo

Another great find today. Maybe even better than all the others although that could just be because this is post-rock. I have a soft spot for post-rock after listening to bands like Sigur Rós and Little Kingdoms. But honestly, X Nihilo is a really stellar band and has a lot of potential. Make sure you keep an eye on these guys.

You can download their free demo here: http://xnihilo.bandcamp.com/

And you can find their facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/X-Nihilo/224708267615666
