EP Review: goodbyes by the bilinda butchers

Everyone, guess what! the bilinda butchers have finally come out with new music! Yeah, I'm really excited too! Let's jam-out together while I tell you stuff!

goodbyes is the second EP from San Francisco based dream-pop band, the bilinda butchers. This newest EP features the same dreamy droned-out vocals and electronic beats that their debut EP regret, love, guilt, dreams had with a new almost post-rock sound in the last song, "little leaf".

If you dig this EP as much as I do please support the bilinda butchers by paying for the EP. Right now their Bandcamp page is doing a "Name Your Price" for it so anything really would help! Even just a dollar!

If you're really cool then head over to their record label DiscAu and grab a limited edition colored vinyl! Enjoy your day everyone!

Album Review: Centipede Hz by Animal Collective

Well guys, it's finally here. If you have no idea what I'm talking about I feel oh so very sorry for you because everyone should know what Animal Collective is. They are by far one of my favorite bands ever. If you aren't really a very adventurous music listener then Animal Collective probably isn't the band for you but, to those who like to listen to incredibly weird and cool stuff, you now have another great album to add to your library.

Centipede Hz is the ninth album from avant-garde group Animal Collective. It also is the first album since their 2007 album Strawberry Jam to feature all four of the original band members.

Centipede Hz is a very active and fast paced album. It jumps all over the place and for good reason. This reason being first and foremost, who wants to listen to the same thing for 11 songs? But also does this because part of the inspiration behind Centipede Hz is the sound of the static and white-noise you can hear when trying to tune into a radio station. This sound is present in a lot of the songs especially in the beginning of "Applesauce" and "Today's Supernatural".

Over all I really liked and enjoyed listening to Centipede Hz and would recommend it to anyone you isn't scared to try out something different. It is by no means normal music but that is what makes Animal Collective such an awesome group. You can check out a few songs from Centipede Hz below. Thanks for reading!

Album Review: Nocturne by Wild Nothing

The many different covers for Nocturne
So it is finally here! The newest album by the always great dream-pop group, Wild Nothing. This newest album is called Nocturne and it is the band's second album and this album has a lot of variation in it. There isn't just one single kind of sound to Nocturne, which is a good thing. So many times I have found myself bored halfway through an album because all of the songs sound the same. Bands like The Drums and Sigur Rós often do this to me. Not that their bad bands, in fact they're some of my favorites, it's only that their songs can get repetitive after a while.

You can tell just by listening that variation and this sense of inescapable change was a big theme in the making of Nocturne. There are slow, dreamy songs like "Through the Grass", but there are also the faster, more indie-pop tunes like, "Only Heather". My favorite song at the moment is probably, "Shadow". The instrumentation within this album is also very diverse and is persistent throughout the entire album. This all makes for a really well put together sound and composition.

Man busy week, you know with music blogging, Guild Wars 2 coming out, and and homework. I didn't make a post on Monday and I'm sorry about that guys.

It is put together so well and everything flows perfectly together. But it's not just one song either! "I Wanna Go" is just song #2 on his album, About A Feeling. So if you like this dreamy awesome thing make sure you check out the entire album on his bandcamp page. Right now it's being sold for only $7!

Album Review: Amanecer by Millionyoung

This came out like a month ago and the only new songs on it are the last three but it is so good! I have always been a fan of Millionyoung and I'm so happy he is still putting music out! I also heard through the grapevine that there will be another new album really soon that wont just be a collection of his really early work but will actually be a legit new album!

Ok now I know a lot of us don't have like an hour to listen to this album so if you're reading this right now wondering what songs are the best off Amanecer I would definitely say you need to make sure to listen to "Desperate Measures" but also songs like "Cynthia" "Feel the Same" and "Weak Ends". They're my favorite!

Temple Songs - Someone Get Her Outta Here

How has everyone's week been? My week has been really great. The first week back in college is always great because you're back with friends and the work-load is very low.

Anyway I was thinking last night what I would put on the blog today and I just couldn't find anything. I mean yeah I guess I didn't look super hard but it's ok! Because Temple Songs is a great band! This song especially is great with the droned out singers voice and the psychedelic/surf rock cords in the background. Definitely check these guys out!

WU LYF - We Bros

So WU LYF (pronounced Woo Life) is a very interesting band. It stands for World Unite Lucifer Youth Foundation and is a band that formed in 2008 in the UK. They were (and still are to some extent) very mysterious when they first formed and currently have 1 album out called Go Tell Fire to the Mountain

Lorgnette - One Hand on a Hexagram

So first day of classes was a success. I'm an art student if you couldn't guess that so pretty chill classes. I mean, I still have to do Gen-Ed classes like History, English, Foreign Languages and what-not but it's fine.

But anywho check out Lorgnette and their awesome song "One Hand on a Hexagram" which strangely says it was released October 20, 2012... Time traveling synth-poppers? We may never know.

If you like "One Hand on a Hexagram" by Lorgnette you can listen/buy it at their bandcamp page here: http://lorgnette.bandcamp.com/track/one-hand-on-a-hexagram

Perdition - Gatorade Punch

So I felt I had been posting about big name bands pretty often so I decided to go on the hunt for good undiscovered talent. So I found these guys. They're pretty rad what with their beards, outfits, and moves. Oh and their music pretty good too! This song is called "Gatorade Punch" and is the first song off their album Hispaniola.

They're Perdition, and if you dig this kind of music you should totally check them out! Below are links to all sorts of things, like their Facebook page, their bandcamp, and other stuff. Enjoy guys!

Wild Nothing - Shadow

Is everyone ready for Wild Nothing's new album Nocturne to get here? It's gonna be so cool! It's due to be released on August 28th so we only have a couple of weeks left until it's here!

In unrelated news, I'm going back to college on the 19th so that's pretty rad. I don't think being back will badly affect these posts but then again I need time to study and get good grades. I promise it wont be like how this blog is when it started (making like 6 or 7 posts a month).

Anyway if you haven't ever heard any music from Wild Nothing you can check him out here.

The XX release new song!

So yesterday, the awesome electro-pop band The XX released a new song called "Chained" and it has all the great elements that their debut album XX had. A great beat and rhythm, amazing vocals, and stellar crescendos that they have had in all their music is present in "Chained" and it sounds great.

"Chained" is a song off their newest album Coexist which is due to be released early next month.

If you would like to preorder Coexist you can do so either at their website: http://thexx.info/coexist
Or you can find it on iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/us/preorder/coexist/id542012437

X Nihilo

Another great find today. Maybe even better than all the others although that could just be because this is post-rock. I have a soft spot for post-rock after listening to bands like Sigur Rós and Little Kingdoms. But honestly, X Nihilo is a really stellar band and has a lot of potential. Make sure you keep an eye on these guys.

You can download their free demo here: http://xnihilo.bandcamp.com/

And you can find their facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/X-Nihilo/224708267615666

Low Voltage Rangers

So I totes-magotes missed my dentist appointment today, so........that was a thing that happened. Also, Low Voltage Rangers released their first album. Well, that didn't happened today, but I felt I'd still talk about it.

It's pretty good. Low Voltage Rangers is a band from Milwuakee with a kind of alt-rock, electro-pop sound to them, which is really new. Not the whole "We're a band from Milwuakee" part, but the mixing of alt-rock and electro-pop thing. And it sounds really good! Songs like "Columns" and "The Mourning Grew Flowers" I think are really good examples of this. In fact, I was reminded of Blink-182 when I first listened to "Columns".

Here are just a couple great songs from Phantom Forces. If you like these songs definitely go check out the full album at their bandcamp page! Not all of us have $7 though, so at least go and like their facebook page. See you guys tomorrow!
